I suspect you're probably not terribly interested in knowing about my wife, my family, where I went to college or my sales accomplishments. I'd guess you are more interested in knowing how I came to be in Wintergreen, and how I might be able to help you. Well, allow me to tell you about that . . .

It's really no wonder I love the real estate business . . . like my father, I was born and raised in a real estate and development family. Some of my earliest memories are of Pinehurst, NC. The land, golf courses and houses were beautiful. I loved exploring and discovering . . finding new possibilities. It was an adventure!

I remember being about 10 years old when my father heard about some place called "Wintergreen". After making a brief visit to this unknown community, he returned so impressed that he gathered our family for a permanent move to this locale. It didn't take long, though, to see what impressed my father. The beauty of Wintergreen, the activities and amenities, and the graciousness of the people were overwhelming. Even now, 22 years later, my feelings are the same. I continue to count myself blessed to be part of this community.

Not only do I feel the same about Wintergreen as a whole, but I still enjoy exploring and discovering. I'm one of the lucky few that gets to do what they love to do. I help people learn more about Wintergreen and together we search out all the possibilities and choices. We discover new properties . . . looking for the one that is just right. People place a lot of trust in me and I enjoy helping and being needed!

If you would like to discuss the possibility of including Wintergreen in your future, I invite you to contact me. My goal is to assist and educate you while making the whole process comfortable and fun! I care about my clients and see them frequently here at Wintergreen, so naturally, I want them to be happy with the choices they've made. I can be reached at the numbers above, and will be looking forward to helping you!

There is a reason that Peter Farley knows every inch of the trails and paths of Wintergreen mountain and the valley at Stoney Creek. His clients know why. He’s been a contributor to the spirit of the place since hiking boots were the best transportation around.

That was 1973, and for Peter, a VMI grad and (no small coincidence) biology/botany major, the merger was as natural as the mountains are to their incredible setting. As part of the original conceptual team, he has been intimately involved in the wonderful design you see today.

How does all that heart and hardware go together? Just look are Peter’s sales accomplishments during 26 years and you’ll see.

Wintergreen has grown as a place of beauty, nature, outdoor living and family. Traditions continue and Peter now enjoys working to find just the right setting for second and even third generations of owners.

And who knows . . . sometimes substance follows form. Just ask Peter’s kids, who know the trails and slopes almost as well as he does.

While Betty is a relatively new member of the Wintergreen sales team, she brings with her a high degree of professionalism and over 16 years of real estate experience in the Annapolis and Arundel County Maryland area. She and her husband Doug, an architect, were drawn to Wintergreen by the beauty of the area and the unique recreational opportunities offered on the mountain and at Stoney Creek. The Greens are building a home in Stoney Creek and are looking forward to being full-time residents of the community.

Both Betty and Doug are natives of Baltimore, but were able to enjoy living on the Magothy River on Gibson Island for 31 years before moving to Wintergreen. They have two grown children who were raised there. Betty has been a consistent multi-million dollar producer throughout her career, achieving membership in Long and Foster's production clubs. Educated at Smith College, with a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, Betty's real estate philosophy is to deliver the kind of service she would hope to receive as a buyer or seller. She has enjoyed a high percentage of repeat business and referrals from past clients, and is rapidly developing the same high standard of practice here at Wintergreen.

"Betty Green was so helpful to us recently as we considered the purchase of a condominium at Wintergreen. In fact, we are driven to write you this thank you letter because we both felt that you did an unusually good job during all phases of the process."
-Howard and Eugenia Anderson-Ellis

"Betty Green is the best! We are ecstatic with our new home on the mountain! Nathalie and I were taken with Wintergreen’s beauty on our first visit. We were overwhelmed with the choices but with Betty’s knowledge, professionalism and personal touch made building our home a pleasure. We’re so grateful we met her."
-Scott and Nathalie Palmer

"I first met Betty Green in 2001 when my husband and I purchased a second home in Stoney Creek and made regular trips to Wintergreen. For about a year Betty and I worked together, looking at land and discussing all the pros and cons of building. We thought seriously about a mountain lot and Betty guided us as we rejected that plan and settled on Rodes Farm as our favorite area. Betty gets the highest marks for charm and professionalism. It is a lucky client who gets to work with her."
-Jan Burland

"Betty Green became our realtor at Wintergreen in the summer of 2000 and we bonded as personal friends as well. Her expertise of the mountain properties was beneficial to us. She located a home for us in a timely fashion and met the criteria we had requested. Betty make the purchase of our mountain home a pleasurable experience and, we knew immediately that she would be someone that we could trust and recommend to others."

Early Years Tim Hess grew up in Florida before the days of high rise condominiums and Disney World. He has always loved the outdoors and appreciated the natural beauty around him. From a young age, he has been an avid outdoorsman, fascinated by remote and wild places. Tim went north to college and fell in love with the mountains and change of seasons. Disappointed with the rapid pace of development in Florida, he did not return home after graduating but instead, moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to work for The Sea Pines Company in resort management.

A New Way of Life To this day, Tim remembers his first trip to Wintergreen in May of 1975. The road up the mountain had just been finished and the ski towers were being set by helicopter. The Sea Pines Company had been hired to market and operate the new resort. Little did Tim realize that by that fall, he would be a part of the opening management team. Before he knew it, the weeks turned into months and the months became a year. Tim finally realized that the mountains were where he was destined to be. He had discovered a new way of life and it was clear that living in the mountains with its active lifestyle and picturesque setting was the ideal place to call home. Tim met his wife at Wintergreen and they have raised three children in the area: Greg, Lauren and Paul. They all enjoy hiking, skiing and fly-fishing as a family. Tim has valued the richness that Wintergreen has given his family and he is eager to share his experiences with others. When asked about it he said, "Life is a constant series of choices. Some people get so busy making a living that they forget to make a life for themselves and their families. A place like Wintergreen gives people a chance to put their choices in the proper perspective."

The Right Way to Buy Tim feels that most people he deals with are looking for lifestyle, "the most important service I can offer clients is assisting them in obtaining their personal goals as it relates to property ownership." Tim has the in-depth knowledge and love for the area to find the ideal property to meet their specific needs. So, when you are ready to buy or sell, turn to Tim Hess for some friendly professional service. He knows the Wintergreen lifestyle as well as anyone and can make your move a complete success. When you love what you do, the results speak for themselves. With Tim by your side, discovering Wintergreen can be an adventure you won’t soon forget. I first saw what was to become Wintergreen when I was a young boy hiking, camping, trout fishing and grouse hunting in the mountains of northern Nelson County. I grew up on a cattle farm in nearby Albemarle and Louisa Counties, and generations of my family have lived in Virginia since early colonial times. Mr. Jefferson was certainly accurate in describing the Old Dominion as "the eden of the United States." I am the oldest of five children and was educated at the Blue Ridge School and the Foreign Service School at Georgetown University. After military service in the Coast Guard and before coming to Wintergreen in 1975, I worked as the diplomatic and international representative for ITT World Communications and helped inaugurate the first telecommunications into Mainland China and the Moscow-Washington Medical Hotline linking the Ministry of Health in the Soviet Union to NIH.

My friend, Peter Farley, brought me to see Wintergreen in 1974 and I was so impressed, that I left Washington and never looked back. I have been very fortunate to work in one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in the world. It has been a rare privilege to be part of Wintergreen.

I am married to the beautiful Judy Mather from Ligonier, PA., who was the social director at the Greenbriar Hotel. We are blessed with two sons, William Mather (23), who recently graduated from Villanova University and is employeed by an environmental technology firm in Washington DC; and John Randolph (19), who is a first year at the University of Virginia. Our family loves fly-fishing, golf, skiing, hiking, bird hunting, and rollerblading. Wintergreen is the perfect place for us, as I hope it will be for you.
